Hong Kong

The ship pulled into Hong Kong this morning at 8:00. I got up at 4:00 am thinking it was 6:00 because I wanted to take pictures of the sun coming up and pictures of the city. There wasn't much to see except large shipping containers where we were docking. Oh and a major bridge project. I'm King of the World

Cable Stayed Bridge underconstruction across harbor.

Looks like it will be high enough to let cruise ships and tankers pass through.
Have to come back in a few years to see what the finished product looks like.

The Hong Kong shore excursion began with us going visiting "Stanely Market" in the upper hills of Hong Kong Island to shop for souveniers and Aberdeen, home of the famous "water people" who live aboard their junks and sampans. One of the James Bond movies featured a water chase scene using these type of boats. I think it was "Live and Let Die".

This is a "Sampan" not a "Junk"

Yes they offer rides and we were chauffered around the harbor.

My mother is enjoying this more than me.

My Aunt Doris too. I can't wait to get out this boat.

"Yea were movin' on up, to the eastside. To a deluxe apartment in the sky. We finally got a piece of the pie"

Then we traveled to the summit of Victoria Peak for a panoramic view of Hong Kong and rode the tram 1805 feet down to the city.

"Life is like a box of chocolates"

The incline is so steep that the seats face foward with your back facing downhill.

We are on the next train.

On the way back to the ship as our tour bus was turning into the loading docks I caught a glimpse of a "Bullet Train". It was red and I saw the tail end of slip into the tunnel like snake traveling at high speed. Darn it. Another missed photo opportunity. One of my main goals in life is to ride on one of these trains. In Asia or Europe. I don't care cause it doesn't look like there will be any in the U.S. anytime soon which is a shame.

One of the highlights of this cruise is leaving Hong Kong at night. The view of all the lights of downtown Hong Kong from Victoria Harbor is unbeliveable.

Good Night Hong Kong, Good Morning Vietnam
